Esra Gezer (b. 1995, Istanbul) completed her education at Maçka Akif Tunçel Anatolian Vocational High School in the Plastic Arts Department and graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics and Glass in 2018. Seeking to deepen her artistic research, she was admitted to the Master’s Program in Ceramics at the Graduate School of Fine Arts at the same university in 2023.
Gezer’s contemporary art practice transcends the traditional boundaries of clay and ceramic mediums, exploring the layered relationships between memory, spaces, and objects. Combining various materials, primarily porcelain, she challenges the physical and perceptual limits of the medium, focusing on the projections of spaces and everyday objects within human psychology. While questioning the stances, impositions, and internal fractures that psychological and societal norms inflict upon the individual, she creates a powerful visual and conceptual tension that renders these normative pressures visible through her exploration of hybrid materials and practices of form deconstruction.
Gezer actively continues her artistic production in her Istanbul studio. She also organizes art training programs and creative workshops in various institutions as well as her own studio to pass on her experience in contemporary ceramics.
